Effective techniques to eliminate mice
There is an old saying in business. "Building a better mouse trap and the world to beat a path to your door. "While this adage is true when it comes to products and services that the public wants to buy, it does not necessarily we need a better mouse traps for trapping the actual mouse, because the secret is not so much in the trap that you use as the techniques employed. In addition, traps are not the whole answer. There are other steps you can take to keep your wireless mouse instead.
The habits of mice and lifecycle
Control begins with understanding your target species. The common house mouse, Mus musculus, homes and businesses in North America infects, causing millions of dollars in damage each year. This species grows in the human occupied structures where food, water, shelter and nesting materials are easily accessible. Mice prefer to stay and feed in 10 feet from their nests (up to 30 feet if necessary) and their movements are not only horizontally. They travel vertically as well. They can infect any what part of a house or commercial structure. Mice defecate and urinate wherever they go. their feces can contain several bodies disease, including bacteria that cause Salmonella. (And in the case of the deer mouse, Hanta virus, but that's for another article.) For this because they are public and individual health.
Description
The adult house mouse is gray or brown, with small eyes and ears relatively large, weighing about ½ to 1 ounce. His most full-length, including tail 3-4 inches 5.5 to 7.5 inches. In a given year, the female five to ten litters, each consisting of five to six young. Gestation lasts 19-21 days, with the maturation of children ages 6 to 10 weeks. The type of house mice live 9-12 months. Under ideal conditions, without control by predators, diseases and deaths caused by other factors, a pair, has the potential to give rise to a population of about 1 million people in just 12 months! If you did not believe, do the math yourself.
Prevention
Prevention is divided into three categories: exclusion, eliminating sources of food and removal of refuge.
Exclusion:
Any time of year, but especially in autumn temperatures begin to drop, the mouse will try to enter houses and other buildings. Building owners should inspect carefully to ensure that structures are no openings of ¼ inch or more that are easy entry points for these rodents. Check doors and windows. Make sure they seal tightly. replace defective parts thresholds and sweeps. Check the walls where the son or pipes between structure, caulk and seal gaps. Inspect any attic, crawlspace and garage vent screens to ensure they are tight and have no holes larger than ¼ inch. Also check the door to explore space for a good seal. Take a look at areas where perpendicular roofs meet. There are often gaps in these areas to be closed. Make sure all roof vents are controlled.
Eliminate food sources:
Be sure that potential sources of food in open air are removed or cleaned. feed should never be left overnight. Fallen fruit trees must be cleaned daily. Keep garbage cans tightly closed. Indoors, make sure that food, including pet food is properly stored in sealed containers or in a refrigerator or freezer. Food should never be overlooked during the night and food residue should be cleaned from all surfaces. There is preferable to have a metal garbage can inside, with an airtight lid.
Removal of refuge:
HARBORAGE withdrawal is a critical step in reducing risks to the mouse in any structure. construction debris brush piles and anything that provides cover or shelter for mice should all be removed. prune vines and thick ground cover reverse the building.
Baiting with Toxic Baits
The general rule is outside and inside bait trap. With inside bait animals are likely to die in hidden and inaccessible structure and create an odor unpleasant. If you must use bait to the inside, make sure they are placed in areas where children and animals can not go. There are Bait Stations mice on the market that hold bait inside, but just to be course it is always advisable to place them beyond the reach of children and pets.
If you have a large population of mice outside and you want to reduce the chances of entering your home or business, you can use bait to reduce their number. In this situation, experts Pest most strongly recommend using tamper-proof bait against rodents that can be anchored with power bait set on pins or bars, firmly locked in the station, so pets and children can not pick and shake the bait. To be sure, it is place stations in areas where children and pets are not for them, but mouse is recommended. Square stations so that the entrance holes are closer to a hard surface where mice are likely to feel their way.
Trapping (the preferred method of mouse)
The preferred method to control populations of mouse trapping. This is true for two reasons. The first you know immediately what your success rate. The other is that the dead are easily found and removed, before odor can develop.
There are many traps on the market these days, but the former, a trap is always snap simplest and best. and Mass trapping is the best technique, especially for heavy infestations.
The golden rule for how many traps that you are using is generally twice as many traps as you think there are mice. Do not be stingy. The more traps, the more chance you have of success.
Use the most traps in areas of highest activity. These areas can be identified by the large number of droppings. They are generally close to nesting sites and regular food. Traps should be placed in areas where active mice running regularly travel.
Mice have poor eyesight and use surfaces such as walls, to find their way around their environment. Place traps perpendicular to these surfaces. Orient them so that the base bait closer to the wall, because it is most likely where the mouse will travel and will more likely to find the bait. It also benefits from the mouse being in the target area that the bond snaps (to surface). Place 3 or more traps beside another way mice can not jump over them.
Mice are generally curious about changes in their environment and the study almost immediately. This gives you the advantage in the first place traps and gives you additional benefits when you move. Most experts recommend different placement of traps at weekly intervals in the active areas, to keep the mouse interested. You can also leave the unbaited traps and unset for a few days, after a week or two, then start using them again. This can be useful If the mice failed to be taken and have become shy traps.
Contrary to popular notion, mice are not very fond of cheese. They like dried fruits, nuts and sometimes go for meat. raisins and cranberries are a good choice because they are attractive to mice and are easy to skewer with the owner of bait. They stand very firmly on the base, making them more difficult to remove, thus increasing the chances that the trap is triggered. Sometimes it is useful to lubricate with peanut butter on the bait to increase its attractiveness. Mice are also attracted by the materials nesting to cotton balls or tissues may also function as bait. Do not be afraid to mix and match all these baits to see what works best in your situation.
If, after following these steps, you still have a problem with the mouse trying to call a professional to help locate additional access points, identifying more areas of activity and conduct a program of professional trapping. Technician will have more knowledge, a wide range of experiences and be better equipped to accomplish the task successfully.
